Guided Prayer
Guided Prayer*

(Read the following call to prayer)

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God; and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.

(Take a few moments of silence to focus on God's presence, then read the following prayer)

O God, who art infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, glorious in holiness, full of love and compassion, abundant in grace and truth: All Thy works praise Thee in all places of Thy dominion, and Thy glory is revealed in Jesus Christ Thy Son. Wherefore we praise Thee, Father, Son , and Holy Spirit, one God, blessed for ever.

(Take a few moments to reflect on God's creation and the wonder of life)

Almighty and most merciful Father; from whom cometh every good and perfect gift. We give Thee praise and hearty thanks for all Thy mercies; for Thy goodness that hath created us; Thy bounty that hath sustained us; Thy Fatherly discipline that hath corrected us; Thy patience that hath borne with us; And thy love that hath redeemed us. Grant unto us with Thy gifts a heart to love Thee; and enable us to show our thankfulness for all Thy benefits; by giving up ourselves to Thy service; and delighting in all things to do Thy blessed will; Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(Take a few moments to thank God for specific things or relationships in your life)

Almighty and merciful Father, restore our souls in Jesus Christ, that we may be merciful and kind, even as Thou art. Let Thy forgiveness make us willing to forgive all wrong which we have suffered, and to ask forgiveness for every wrong which we have done. Give us the spirit of Him who dwelt among men in great humility, and was meek and lowly of heart. Let the same mind be in us which was also in Him. Let our love and charity be abundant as our joy, that our hearts may be tender to all need, and our hands give freely for His sake. And grant that, being rooted and grounded in the mystery of the Word made flesh, we may receive power to overcome the world and gain the life eternal; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

(Take a moment to confess your sins to God)

God of all comfort, we commend unto Thee all in any wise afflicted, all persons oppressed with poverty, sickness, or other trouble of body or sorrow of mind, and all such as we name in our hearts. Grant unto them the consolations of which they have need, and overrule their present suffering to their eternal good; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(Take a moment to pray for the needs of people known to you. Also lift up to God your own needs.)

O Lord Most High, we give Thee thanks for all Thy saints, martyrs, and confessors; for all the faithful who in every age have witnessed a good confession, and have been the chosen vessels of Thy grace and lights of the world, in their several generations. Grant us grace so to follow them as they followed Christ; and bring us, with them, to those things that eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, which Thou hast prepared for those who love Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with Thee the Father and the Holy Spirit be all honor and glory, world without end.

(Take a few moments to remember family, friends, and others known to you who have passed on to the Church Victorious. Give thanks to God for their lives.)

And now, as our Saviour Christ hath taught us, we humbly pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done; On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts; As we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil; For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory. for ever. Amen.
